Authorities stated they were notified by a individual who noticed a automobile in Hanau smeared with red-colored liquid

Roughly 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.

Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they announced in a release.

Police report they were notified during the night on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued substance.

The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a banned symbol, they reported.

Police then discovered many other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.

Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.

Law enforcement state preliminary tests indicate the fluid was probably human blood.

"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; authorities are presently not cognizant of any harm in relation with the event," they commented.

Municipal representatives announced they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for information.

A senior representative said the attack rendered him stunned and had to be resolved rapidly.

"This event affects the core of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right attack in 2020," he posted on online, recalling the killing of nine people by a gunman targeting individuals of foreign heritage in February 2020.
